Students complete the New Jersey state testing on Friday May 20, 2022 at the Winslow Township Middle School after an insane two weeks of testing.
Students were testing everyday throughout the weeks of May 2, 2022 and May 9, 2022. With the exception of Wednesday May 4, 2022 because of staff training and Friday May 13, 2022 due to the 8th Grade dance being that day. They had multiple tests for each subject. There were three math tests, four science tests, and three language arts tests.
“I thought it was a bit hard, but it was okay.” Said by 8th grade student Esther Adamolekun. “But testing in general felt like my head was going to fall off.”
Students were only given 90 minutes to complete each Language Arts portion of the test, 60 minutes to complete each Math portion of the test, and 45 minutes to complete each Science Portion of the test.
“I felt like I had enough time for one portion of the test, but I felt like I didn’t have enough time for the other portion.” Said by Josiah Colon.
There were classes that started preparing ahead of time for the NJSLA testing; many ELA classes were doing practice tests, to help prepare students for the skills and standards they will have to answer during the test.
“I think that it prepares you since when you see the questions and think back to how your teacher reviewed it with you, it can help you out and then you can do your own things.” Said by 8th Grade Student Rem Stanley. “It also teaches you how to set up paragraphs and stuff.”
Honors Algebra students however did not take the Math portion of the test. They instead took the 90 minute Algebra test during the week of May 16.
“I thought the Algebra test wasn’t as hard as I thought.” Stated by Honors Algebra student Awa Diao.
For those who were absent during the week of testing, there were make-up days that took place from the weeks of May 23, 2022 and May 30, 2022.
“Even though I really don’t want to do state testing this week, especially since everybody else is done, it’s at least nice that I can get it over with now.” Stated by an Anonymous Student.
