Winslow Township Middle School had a change in leadership this school year. Ms. Nwanguma, the principal of WTMS for 13 years, retired at the end of last school year, and Mr. Shropshire took over for the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Shropshire comes to us from Winslow Township High School where he was the 12th Grade Assistant Principal from 2015-2023.
With every new change in leadership comes a change in image and culture of the school. Mr. Shropshire certainly has some goals in mind for WTMS!
“I want to improve the image and culture of the school, increase the NJSLA test scores, and support and highlight the students and their successes. I want the students to find their path to success, I want the students to see the options that are presented to them and reach for goals that will help their future,” explains Mr. Shropshire.
Joining a new school means meeting new students. The WTMS students met their new principal on September 5 and they certainly made a good impression!
“I love the students and it has been an amazing experience getting to know the students and watching them. I love meeting students and watching them through the process of education, seeing them grow, and working with them to help them find success.” Mr. Shropshire added.
Mr. Shropshire did not originally start off in the field of education although he certainly likes working in the educational setting now!
“I became an educator by accident, I disliked my job, was offered a position, moved into a teaching role and loved the position. I wanted to continue my sports career and wanted to coach. Teaching allowed me a chance to coach, which I did from 2001 to 2013 on the high school level,” Mr. Shropshire explained.
Now we know a little about his professional life, but the students of WTMS want to get to know him better!
“I am a big sports fan; I love the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies. My wife is a fifth-grade teacher. I have three children, 6-year-old daughter Harper who plays soccer, softball and gymnastics, 4-year-old son Billy, who plays soccer and baseball, and four-year-old daughter named Avery who plays soccer, gymnastics and softball.”
We are excited to see what this school year brings and all of the amazing things that Mr. Shropshire is going to accomplish here at WTMS.
