On January 23, 8th grade students visited the Winslow Township High School, right next door, to get a feel of where they’ll be next year and the amazing programs that the high school offers. Students were divided into two sessions, assigned groups and off they went!
The 8th grade trip to the high school was organized so students who are going to the high school get to see and experience a portion of the day. They also get to explore over 25 different electives, clubs, and sports that they might be interested in next year! Students also get to inquire and ask questions to prepare themselves for next year.
Eighth grade class co advisor, Ms Stallard explains, “We set this up every year so the students can see the upperclassmen in their element.”
The field trip to highschool also gives the 8th graders an opportunity to visit the high school earlier in the year, before they have to choose their classes. Some people might not be able to come to the night time orientation that is provided later in the year, so it’s very helpful for those who can’t make it.
Stallard added, “Also, not everyone can get out to the orientation that is coming up, so we like to give everyone an opportunity.”
The field trip helps prepare the 8th graders for the upcoming future. The trip helps them not only find their interests in clubs but also in possible career fields. As students go on to high school, it’s important to picture when they might want to be after they graduate. At the field trip, the gymnasium was set up to provide tables with electives, clubs, and other departments, providing information about each elective.
Ms Irvin, an 8th grader teacher, added, “The programs they have there are wonderful and give our students such great exposure to different career fields.”
Overall, the 8th grade high school field trip helped prepare the 8th graders for next year and gave them ideas for which activities they want to participate in. It was a fun learning experience for the 8th graders.
Joshua Meija says, “I really like the TV Production room, it was super cool”.
Carey McCrae states, “I liked the coding and gaming room with the 3d printed items on the table.”
“The marketing projects look really interesting, too!” Exclaimed Kouture Everett.
The 8th grade students and their families will have a chance to attend an orientation night this month!
