The Student Government Students of Winslow Township Middle school hosted a non-perishable food drive for families in need this Thanksgiving. The drive lasted from October 17 until November 6.
Each year they set up donations, send out flyers, and ask students to support and donate to the food drive.
“Students were asked to donate in the homeroom, individual classes and through NJHS and SGA. We expected a good turnout since every student had access and an opportunity to donate,” explained Ms.Donohue.
The food was quite the success and students and staff both contributed to this charitable event. The drive managed to provide a lot of donations.
“We were able to collect a large variety of food and over 510 items were collected,” answered Ms. Donohue.
The food drive came to an end and the donations were sent to the families that were in need so they could have a Thanksgiving dinner.
“The donations went to the local church, Sicklerville United Methodist Church, over by School #6,” explained Ms. Donohue.
“When one thinks of Thanksgiving, they typically think of a large meal with plenty of food and a large variety. Unfortunately, this is not a reality for many families. All of the food collected gets donated to families in need that live in Winslow Township,” explain Ms.Donohue
As the food drive came to an end, the Church feast just started.
“It was certainly a success! When the Church came to pick the food, up they were most appreciative and grateful for the large donation,” exclaimed Ms. Donohue.
The Student Government Association continually gives back throughout the school year to those in need.
