The 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year was announced at the staff meeting held on Monday, December 18th in the cafeteria. The winner was Mrs. Kristine Miller.
Ms. Miller is a Winslow Township graduate of 2005, she then went on to graduate in 2009 from the University of Stockton. She obtained her Teaching Certificate from Rowan University.
“I grew up in Winslow my whole life! I love this community! My mom is a retired math teacher, she taught at Winslow High School. My sister is a teacher at Overbrook. My Husband, Derek, is very supportive and the reason I am able to do so much with the school. I have two wonderful children Rhett (5) and Irie (3) who love coming to events at the school.

“My mom was a huge influence on me. She stressed education my whole life. She was a hairdresser when I was young and her and my dad worked hard for her to get her college degree. She was the first in her family to go to college. She was an amazing teacher. I learned a lot from her. “ explained Miller.
Mrs. Miller wears many hats around here at WTMS, first and foremost she is an amazing 8th grade math teacher.
“My first and favorite role is a Teacher!! I love being in the classroom with my students and building relationships with them. I also am a math nerd and get super excited to share my knowledge with my students. I am a co-adviser to the Winslow Spirit Club along with the creative and fantastic Mrs. Sampson. We are new this year and have an amazing group of students that take pride in helping the school and community. This was my first season as the girls’ soccer coach and we had an amazing season! I am a new member to the School Leadership Committee this year along with some outstanding educators! I have been able to see how much the staff here at Winslow Middle School does for the community as a whole and I am so grateful I get to be a part of it!”
At the faculty meeting on December 18th, Mr. Shropshire proudly announced his first teacher of the year since taking on the role of Building Principal, earlier this year. Little did Mrs. Miller knew he had another surprise in store for her.
“I was surprised! When I saw my family walk into the meeting I was overcome with emotions and started crying. I felt great, like you would imagine feeling after winning an award! I put a lot of hard work and time into my career and I love teaching so it was really nice to be appreciated for that,” exclaimed Mrs. Miller.
Our teachers here at WTMS have inspired many of us over the years with advice and Mrs. Miller is no different.
“Failure is key to success. Do not be afraid to fail at something, you will learn more from it. That being said, don’t be content in failure. Be able to pick yourself up and ask questions, self-advocate, get clarification, and take on the responsibility of your own education. Be the hardest worker in the room and you can beat the smartest person in the room. You have the ability to do anything you want, but you have to want to do it,” explained Mrs. Miller.
We look forward to seeing what the WTMS Teacher of the Year will bring to our school this year, and hopefully the years to come.
