Starting the 2024- 2025 School year, Winslow Township Middle School has a new leader of the Eagles Nest Youth Thrive Group, Miss Kayla Quarles. She and the Eagles Nest are located in H100. She has joined this amazing group because she stepped in and replaced Mr. Belton, who transitioned over to WTHS.
Kayla Quarles is a 2018 graduate from Winslow Township High school and she is also a graduate from Temple University.
“I’m a proud 2018 graduate of Winslow Township High School. I earned my BA in psychology from Temple University. I love to read and am working on making more time for it. I’m also a huge football fan—especially when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles! GO BIRDS! As you’ll see, I truly love to laugh because there’s so much joy in the world, and I want to share that with others. I’m excited to be the Youth Development Specialist this year!” exclaimed Kayla Quarles.
The staff in The Youth Thrive Group have created a safe space so that students can have a place to feel known, seen, and so they can learn how to build up their confidence and social connections.
Ms. Quarles has already started to make a plan for what her and the Youth Thrive Group have in store for the year.
“In the Youth Thrive Group, my goal is to create a welcoming environment. We’ll have cooking classes, collaborate with other clubs for community events, host lunch lounges, and organize many other activities throughout the year. There’s so much to look forward to!” Ms. Quarles explained.
Though Ms. Quarles thinks the Youth Thrive Group is a great new edition to her life, she also states that with new opportunities, come new challenges.
“As the youngest member of the Eagles Nest, relating to middle schoolers can be tricky, especially when it comes to establishing boundaries. I know it will be a challenge, but I’m confident I can navigate it successfully.”
Students around the building are already talking about their excitement for the Youth Thrive roup and Eagle’s Nest Opportunities.
“My expectation for Youth Thrive is that students show great conduct and build social connections that extend beyond our space. I also want them to be kind to themselves and each other as they grow and interact.” described Ms. Quarles.
We at Winslow Township Middle School can’t wait to see all of the new opportunities and experiences Ms. Quarles and the Eagle’s Nest has to offer!
