The Middle School Tv Production class recently started a new segment called, “Mindfulness Monday”. The Mindfulness Monday segment started in January and they air 1-2 times per month during the school’s morning show, “The Early Bird”. The TV Production class is run by Mrs. Irvin in Studio H107.
Mrs. Irvin and her students came up with the bright idea to start bringing in administrators and counselors onto the Early Bird show.
“Mr. Shropshire kicked off our first segment with some helpful tips and tricks for making the most of your middle school year. He spoke about how important it is to stay focused on your goals. He also discussed getting involved in all of the wonderful opportunities we have here at Winslow Township Middle School,” explained Mrs. Irvin, TV Production Teacher.
Middle school students face a number of various issues throughout their school year that they might not know how to navigate.
“My hopes for the students as they move into the end of the year is that they grow academically, socially and emotionally in preparation for the upcoming school year,” described Ms. Reid, WTMS school counselor.
“Our hopes for the segment is that we can continue to cover these different topics and be able to reach our middle school students. So many middle school students are facing issues that they have a rough time navigating. Hopefully, when they watch these segments, and the students that participated, they can realize that they are not alone and even learn some different strategies to cope and assist them with their daily lives,” added Mrs. Irvin.
After Mr. Shropshire completed the first segment, the counselors continued to participate in segments centered around various topics like conflict resolution and self love.
Ms Reid stated, “I feel like the segment went very well. The students provided great input about the subject and participated freely and comfortably.”
At the end of the segment about self love, the students that participated in the dialogue were each asked to list two details about themselves they they loved.
“The students all stated such wonderful things about themselves. Then, when that exercise was over, they actually asked if they could do it again, but this time, say things they liked about each other! It really brought a tear to my eye. To see them lifting each other up like that was so amazing, exclaimed Mrs. Irvin.
The Early Bird Morning Show airs during homeroom on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. They show records from Studio 107 and features student anchors which report on all things realted to WTMS.
