On Thursday December 12, 2024, Gaming and Coding and Science teacher, Mrs. Sinatra was named 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year.
Some of the faculty decorated her classroom with items such as banners and streamers during her arrival to school. Teachers and students were lined up outside of Mrs. Sinatra’s door and surprised her with a banner and confetti.
Mrs. Sinatra has been a part of the Winslow Township faculty and community since 2007. She has coached different sports and taught different subjects.
“I have worked at Winslow Township Middle School since 2007. I have taught many different subjects. I taught math my first year and then taught science from 2008-2017. In the fall of 2017, I started teaching Coding and Game Design. Over the years I have coached field hockey, softball, and basketball. I have also worked many programs at the school like the 21st Century after school programs and summer camps, WinSoar alternative education, the STEAM Summer Enrichment and even taught at the Teacher Academy, teaching coding topics to the elementary teachers. I also love helping in any way I can, so I love to go help teachers with tech and other projects,” exclaimed Mrs. Sinatra.
Mrs. Sinatra has been an amazing addition to the Winslow community; therefore, students and other staff felt like she should be rewarded for her amazing work.
“Mrs. Sinatra is kind and very helpful. She always helps me understand the coding part of the class in a way that makes it easy,” explained Dezmond Hernandez, 7th grade gaming and coding student.
“She is very helpful!” added Ahmere Jackson.
With this type of honor, we wonder how Mrs. Sinatra reacted. Was she shocked?
“The first words out of my mouth were that I ugly cry because I immediately felt myself welling up. As annoying as I may be to some of the students, my ultimate goal is to make sure students are in their classrooms getting an education. I went here and I want to see students from my school successful and making positive impacts in the community. Winning made me feel appreciated because sometimes you don’t know if people see you working hard,” stated Mrs. Sinatra.
Mrs. Sinatra has a lot of things people don’t know about her and even some fun facts!
“Fun fact about me is I am a huge Disney person. We go at least once a year and I love to ride the rides with my kids and run around to find the best snacks. I also once won a limbo contest at the high school and the prize was a banana and 25 years later I still think about that prize.” claimed Mrs. Sinatra.
Mrs. Sinatra is just such a great teacher and she has a piece of advice to share with all of her students.
“Take your education seriously because paying for college is not fun and if you work hard, you can get scholarships. No one wants to waste several hundreds of dollars a month because they goofed off in school.”
Mrs. Sinatra is such a hard working teacher and we can’t wait to see all the accomplishments she achieves in the future. We want to extend a huge congratulations to Mrs. Sinatra for this amazing honor!
