On April 17, 2025 a Geography Bee took place at Winslow Township Middle School in the media center. Multiple kids participated in it, but there could only be one winner. This took place in the morning at 8:30-10:30.
Students in the Geography Bee had to answer geography related questions but if they got two questions wrong then they were eliminated. Otherwise, students that were not participating in the Geography Bee followed their normal schedule while teachers put on the live stream of the Geography Bee so students could watch and follow up on their peers’ progress!
The Geography Bee lasted a total of 6 rounds. The tension was up in the air for those 2 hours but they got through it.
The winner of the Geography Bee was 8th grader Zander Lane.
Zander explained, “I prepared for the geography bee by playing geography quizzes at home. Some examples are geoguessr, openguessr, geoguessr match the flag and also looking at borders and country shapes.”
Looks like he did a lot of preparation for his win. Zander studied really hard to earn the prize and his victory, therefore many students congratulated him.
Zander was also asked how he felt about the questions he was asked in the Geography Bee and if any of them stumped him. Let’s see what he has to say.
“I feel that the questions that I was asked were mediocre on the hardness scale, I’m surprised so many got them wrong. I don’t believe that there were any questions that stumped me,” declared Zander.
Although some of the students’ specialties weren’t in geography like Zander’s, they still did very well. Therefore, we give props to them for showing out and trying their best.
Thus, another person who had a big role in the Geography Bee was Winslow Township Middle School’s Social Studies Department Chair, Ms. Donohue. She was very excited about the Geography Bee and she made sure everything was set up and ready to go which most likely took a lot of effort and time.
“After administering the test, I delivered the invitations to those invited. Mrs. Irvin, our TV Production teacher along with Mr. Falciani set up the live stream channel so that we can stream it into all of the classrooms. I made sure the chairs and snacks were set up in the media center. Mr. Steiner hosted the Geography Bee and he was quite funny,” proposed Ms. Donohue.
Congratulations to all of our Geography Bee participants, well done!
