Last school year, a grant was provided to Winslow Township Middle School by the Exelon Foundation through Atlantic City Electric. The Exelon Foundation looks at districts in the area that can gain experience with STEM equipment. Mrs. Sinatra, Gaming and Coding Teacher, provides insight on how The Exelon Foundation assists us as a school and what the foundation has provided for WTMS.
“With their help, we were able to purchase a lot of different items for our classroom and give our experiences that our students would not have had otherwise.”
Let’s hear about the STEM resources that have been provided, practiced and used by the Gaming and Coding and Robotics classes.
“We’ve already got started working with the snap circuits and basically, snap circuits are an easy way to learn electricity. We’ve learned how to build complete circuits, how to turn things on and off and basically how to move electricity through a bunch of different devices and make them run,” says Lucas Privott, Gaming and Coding student.
You can imagine that this could be educational and impactful to learn and discover for future occupations.
Some students have been able to showcase their talents with this new equipment. And the students have agreed that they learn better with the new equipment.
“We have batteries that can produce chemical energy and that can power up a video game controller, and a motor. All the activities that we are doing are way different, I feel like we are able to learn better with equipment like this”.
Some other equipment you can find in the Gaming and Coding room are drones, Raspberry Pi controllers, and servo motors.
Mrs. Sinatra, 2025 Teacher of the Year, has many awesome plans for her classes including a Board of Education presentation that highlights some of their work.
