On Friday, May 16, 2025, Ms. Kiett’s environmental stem classes competed in a Food Challenge to see who can best use their home gornw ingredients in the Winslow Township Middle School’s Life Skills room using the crops they harvested in the greenhouse and hydroponic towers. The event brought together science, partnership and culinary arts, highlighting what students can accomplish when they mix learning with hands-on experience.
This unique challenge required students to bring out their creativity in order to whip up a delicious meal using plants that they harvested in their own hydroponic towers in order to showcase their skills and use the crops they grew.
Students researchd recipes on their own, gathered the crops from the hydroponic towers, and went to work! Some of the recipes included were veggie egg wraps, a dill dip, and tacos.
Andrew Sanchez-Martin, a TV Production student described, “It was a wonderful experience and it was very seldom that I disliked working with anyone there. The food that Ms. Kiett’s class prepared is really and example of the young talent that WTMS has within it. We even got to try all of the food!”
The winner of the challenge where 8th grade students Saphire Mackey, Louise Gumiit, and Jasmine Thema. Great job to all of the students who particpated!
